1 O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. 2 Out of the mouths of babes and infants you have founded a bulwark because of your foes, to silence the enemy and the avenger. 3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; 4 what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? 5 Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor. 6 You have given them dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under their feet, 7 all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, 8 the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas. 9 O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! (Psalm 8 NRSV)
Happy Thursday! May this be a tremendous day for you Friend! May we continue to pray for our nation. We pray for all citizens and we pray for peace to come and reign in our midst. Pray for one another. Pray for yourselves.
You may have heard or read the true story of a devoted husband or wife, whose mate has lost their rational thinking abilities to dementia or Alzheimers, and yet they devote their days to visiting their loved one (of course, before this pandemic) to the point of a nurse or staff of the home asking them, "If you know that your spouse doesn't know who you are, why do you still come every day?" And the answer stuns the person; "I know who she is, and that's why I show up day after day." There are few things worse than not being recognized by a loved one or friend for whatever reason. And it's terrible to be forgotten. But guess who never forgets you? God.
This is a beautiful psalm written to express gratitude towards God. His name is awesome and majestic, and God's glory is above the skies. In fact, the psalmist says, God is so awesome even the mouths of babies and toddlers words come forth to form a defensive wall against whatever Satan may throw towards God. The psalmist even says that all it takes is one look upwards to see just how awesome God's handiwork is; look at the moon, the stars; and then you look in the mirror or around you and you ask, Why does God have us on His mind? Why has God not forgotten us? We are "crowned with glory and honor," and we have our role before God to care faithfully and lovingly towards all of God's creation, especially one another. When you consider all these things, we can only continue to praise His glorious name.
The actions of a grateful person reflect not only introspection, but also a reflective nature towards the surroundings where he or she is; that's when we see the work of God. And it helps us know that God will never forget us.
PRAYER: Loving Father, I join King David in affirming that You care for me and for all of us. May we never forget Your mercies and glories. Help us to share our love for You with all, especially during this critical time in our world. Bless us to be a blessing. We pray in faith in the name of Jesus our Lord, amen.
Have a great and blessed day in the Lord! Take time today to look around with a grateful and worshipful heart.
Receive my blessings of love and peace,
Pastor Eradio Valverde
