1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters. 3 And God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day. 6 And God said, "Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters." 7 And God made the firmament and separated the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament. And it was so. 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day. 9 And God said, "Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear." And it was so. 10 God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. 11 And God said, "Let the earth put forth vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, upon the earth." And it was so. 12 The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening and there was morning, a third day. 14 And God said, "Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to separate the day from the night; and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light upon the earth." And it was so. 16 And God made the two great lights, the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night; he made the stars also. 17 And God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light upon the earth, 18 to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day. 20 And God said, "Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the firmament of the heavens." 21 So God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth." 23 And there was evening and there was morning, a fifth day. 24 And God said, "Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds." And it was so. 25 And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds and the cattle according to their kinds, and everything that creeps upon the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth." 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth." 29 And God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food. 30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food." And it was so. 31 And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, a sixth day. 1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God finished his work which he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done. 3 So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all his work which he had done in creation. 4 These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created. (Genesis 1;1-2:4a RSV Bible)

Dad joke of the day: When is baseball mentioned in the Bible? Genesis 1, verse 1, where it says "In the Big Inning God created the heavens and the earth." Insert your groan here. Welcome to Wednesday, dear Friend! May the joy of the Lord be your strength today and all days. May God blessw those who are not feeling well, those who are facing medical exams or appointments, those who are hurting emotionally as well as physically. We pray for those who face tough decisions. We pray for those who recently lost a loved one and are mourniing. We pray for those about to wed. We pray for moms and dads who await the arrival of a baby. We pray for the world that she may be truly at peace. And we pray the peace of the Lord be in you.

Those in the know say that the story for today's lesson was first a long-shared oral story handed down from generation to generation, until someone wrote it down. Years of sharing around a campfire stories lilke these to answer long-asked questions about "Where did I come from? Who made all this?" And they became the foundation of what is now our Bible and the Bible of the Jews. I had a professor of Old Testament say that while knowing sources and other theories about the creation story, he said it is best to know the story. And I agree. This is the story: God made everything. God made us and even in His image. And as we read in verse 26, the plural reference God makes as He says, "Let us," shows that God in Three was there, present, active, and involved in the decision-making and the creation of all things, especially the making of humans.

We believe that God created all things just by the spoken word. Such is the power of God, to create all things even out of nothing, as "without form and void" affirms. The order of things were created by the wisdom and love of God. And a difference pointed out about creation, when God created all things, God said, "Let there be," and it was; but when God created us, God said, "Let us make humans (man)." The making of something is vastly difference between saying and doing. This is the expressed desire of God ro have a relationship with us. God's hand made you! Did you ever think about that? That God loves you so much His loving, gentle, touch was on you as you were made. You are unique, one of a kind, and the world needs you! Your gifts and graces were not shared with anyone else, and imagine the impact and difference you can make on God's world? Your smile, your touch, your laugh, your wisdom, your entire being can offer to someone who is need for just a part of that which you were made to offer. And along with all God created, you were seen by God as "Very good." Let us live in that way, blessing God and blessing God's creation. Start now!

PRAYER: Holy Father, in total reverence, we accept our creation as a marvel and miracle. We thank You for all You have made, all You have shared with us, and all that is yet to come. We love You, and praise You in Christ Jesus' name we pray, amen.

Have a great and blessed day in the Lord! YOUR CALL TO ACTION: Be a blessing of creation to creation today!

Three in One, Epistle Edition

11 Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. 12 Greet one another with a holy kiss. 13 All God’s people here send their greetings. (2 Corinthians 13:11-13 NIV)

Happy and blessed Tuesday to you, dear Reader! May time with God bring blessings to you to renew and revive your faith. Pray for one another. Pray for the needs of those who asked prayers of you and your church. Pray for the world. Pray that we might become better people of love! Seek to serve. Seek God's favor in your life.

Bishop John Wesley Hardt was an amazing man. He was a bishop-in-residence at Perkins School of Theology-SMU for many years. He arrived after I had graduated and every time I saw him when attending a meeting, or Ministers Week or other visits to the campus. Bishop Hardt had been blessed with an amazing memory. The first time I "met" him, he already knew my name and more incredibly where I was serving. Through the years, he would greet me with "Eradio, how are things in campus ministry, San Antonio, San Marcos..." I was blessed to remember his name! He was truly a man of encouragement, a man of love, and a man of peace. His mere presence was a blessing to me always.

The Apostle Paul as he closes this his second letter to the church in Corinth ends it with his blessings and hope for the Church. He wants believers to be people of joy; to hear this apostle say, "Rejoice!" means his interest in them was sincere and genuine. He knew of their struggles and yet speaks of theirneed to move forward towards "full restoration." No church is perfect, but the need for constant reflection and renewal should be part of our commitment to be the best we can be for Jesus. We should naturally strive for continuing education so that we can continually grow. Ours should be a constant thirst for all we can about God, God's Church and each other. The more we strive to know about one another, the better our chances of growing closer to each others and we become more open to knowing others, even those we may have once thought we had no need for.

Paul says the church should encouarge one another, and that should be a key of why we meet. And this is a task for all members, not just pastors; ours should be to greet every person within our fellowship with genuine love and interest. We should learn not only names of all fellow worshipers, but to know of their stories and how they came to faith. and more importantly how we can better serve them.

"Be of one mind." The mind we should have is that of Christ. "Having the mind of Christ means that we understand God's plan in the world to bring glory to himself, restore creation to its original splendor, and provide salvation for sinful mankind. Having the mind of Christ means that we agree with: * Luke 19:10, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.” The Church cannot forget this, though som have. We, as the Church, are THE place where all this can take place.

"Live in peace." I've often joked that Jesus meant to say, "Where two or three are gathered, there will be trouble." Of course He did not say that, but He knew it. We have a tendency to not always agree with everyone, but here the Apostle is urging our attempts to be peaceful towards one another be a top priority. Paul believes and truly knows, that if we do all these things, "The God of love and peace will be with us." Again, for the second day, we hear that promise of God being with us to bless us, protect us, and use us.

"Greet one another with a holy kiss." The Internet shared this: "The Holy Kiss Implied Full Acceptance. In New Testament times, a kiss on the cheek was used for greeting and implied friendship and acceptance. A kiss of greeting between Christians implied that no elite groups existed and that all were equally loved and accepted—not only by God—but by one other." Full acceptance. We know, of course, because of Covid, the holy kiss may have joined the holy do-do bird, but we still can have ways of showing full acceptance to others.

The Trinity Sunday passage is strong, if coupled with our working together with each other for the good of God's kingdom. We can and will do great things for God, our churches, and our own wellbeing.

PRAYER: God of love, make us more loving and more holy as we strive to bring Your kingdom to the earth. Guide us and bless us; in Christ Jesus we pray, amen.

Have a great and blessed day in the Lord. YOUR CALL TO ACTION: Love others with full acceptance.

Receive my blessings of hope and joy,

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:16-20 NIV)

This coming Sunday is Trinity Sunday, when the Christian Church affirms our belief in God as Three in One; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The scriptures for this week will all center on that faith that we have that God is three persons in one. This is the lesson from the gospels and we will immediately see why.

The Lord instructed the disciples to return back to Galilee, to the mountain where He had told them to go. When they arrived they found Him there, and they worshiped Him, and a key phrase of this verse, "some doubted." We must remember the Bible is a completely honest book. The truth is that even today, in all churches there are those who doubt. Most go to church for valid reasons yet have not fully come to faith, and even all Christians will have times or periods of doubt. Doubt is not bad in and of itself, and sometimes it is healthy. Doubt should be but a stop in our journey of faith. The way I see it is that this whole thing of the resurrection and the appearance and visit of the Risen Christ was more than their limited minds could take. Some were capable of worship, and some were not; yet we do not judge this as the place they stayed. The best thing was they were there, for Jesus shared with them power and authority in this way, "All authority in Heaven and on earth has been given to me." Jesus had received this from His Father and with it, He is able to say, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." This is what is known as The Great Commission, giving the disciples the permission to go and do that which would grow the kingdom. The first command is to go, meaning get up and go to where this can take place. The second part is to make disciples of ALL nations, no exceptions. Once these new disciples are reached, they are to be baptized, in other word, received into the Body of Christ by having their sins washed away and receiving the authority to reject evil in all the forms in which it is presented. And, here is the key for us on this special Sunday, this baptism is to be done in the name of "the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." Jesus spoke of this happening in the name of the Trinity. Jesus also says we are to teach them those things they are to obey, and then the promise of Jesus always being with us always, even to the very end of the age.

What a scene and what a reallity. Worship and doubt, commision and mission, baptism and education, challenge and promise; what we encounter in our lives. The day in and day out challenge of life and the commitment we have to have faith and to be faithful; some days easier than the other even when some days seem impossible. And all this on the day that Jesus would leave them as they watched Him asend into the clouds to regain His proper place at the right hand of God. They had been chosen by Jesus to carry out what others may have seen as an impossible task, but His presence and power led them through the three years of preparation, and now even with Him not visibly present, His word and HIs promise was more than enough. And the idea of God being in three triples the promise, for God is truly with us, facing whatever we face, and God will see us through.

PRAYER: God of the ages, God of today, You better than anyone know what we face and You know the task still ahead of us. Lord, help us accept the commission to do the mission. May our time with You in worship and doubt make us stronger, and may it guide us to victory; in Christ Jesus we pray, amen.

Have a great and blessed day in the Lord. YOUR CALL TO ACTION: Praise and believe in the God of Three in One today in ways that invite others to join us.

A Wildly Wonderful World!

24 What a wildly wonderful world, God! You made it all, with Wisdom at your side, made earth overflow with your wonderful creations. 25 Oh, look - the deep, wide sea, brimming with fish past counting, sardines and sharks and salmon. 26 Ships plow those waters, and Leviathan, your pet dragon, romps in them. 27 All the creatures look expectantly to you to give them their meals on time. 28 You come, and they gather around; you open your hand and they eat from it. 29 If you turned your back, they'd die in a minute - Take back your Spirit and they die, revert to original mud; 30 Send out your Spirit and they spring to life - the whole countryside in bloom and blossom. 31 The glory of God - let it last forever! Let God enjoy his creation! 32 He takes one look at earth and triggers an earthquake, points a finger at the mountains, and volcanoes erupt. 33 Oh, let me sing to God all my life long, sing hymns to my God as long as I live! 34 Oh, let my song please him; I'm so pleased to be singing to God. 35 O my soul, bless God! (Psalm 104:24-34, 35b The Message Bible)

Nothing verifies what a wildly wonderful world that we have then to see it in the eyes of a child. We loved the years of discovery of our daughters, now through our grandkids, God has truly made a wildly wonderful world. Our youngest, our grandson Eli, loves the outdoors and loves for Grandpa to carry him (which by the way gets harder and harder as that boy stretches out!) and one day we were admiring the work of the bees on our flowers. One bee flew near me and I swung Eli around yelling, "Don't bite me, bees!" which made him squeal with laughter and he mimicked me saying, "Don't bite me bees!" We later "discovered" rollie pollies which made him marvel at their ability to roll into a ball. I affirm that this is a wildly wonderful world, and I also affirm that God made it all!

Creation was made with God's overflowing wisdom and it blesses those who understand and appreciate that. A trip to the ocean blesses those who know the awesomeness and majesty of the sea. The psalmist knew and he shares, from his favorite pasture, "the deep, wide sea, brimming with fish past counting, sardines and sharks and salmon. Ships plow those waters, and Leviathan, your pet dragon, romps in them." It is a world for the creatures to expect that God will provide for them; at God's presence these creatures gather around Him and would even eat from God's hand. The psalmist also knows that if God turned His back on them, they would die in a minute, and if God took back The Holy Spirit, they would die and return back to the mud from whence they came. But the presence of the Spirit brings life, abundant life, as the psalmist said, "The whole countryside in bloom and blossom." This is the glory of God and may it last forever! God enjoys His creation and He can bring an earthquake with just a look, God can point His finger at the mountains and a volcano can erupt. My role is to sing God's praises, all the time that I can and may our praise be pleasing to God. It is my personal blessing to sing praises to God, nonetheless, "O my soul, bless God!"

Getting back to the children in our lives; you give them a gift and they're happy for about a minute or two. If you're lucky they say thank you. We cannot be the sane way with God. God has given us the great gift of this wildly wonderful world and the least we can do is to say thank you, God in our prayers, our singing, our worship, and more especially our sharing with others. May we set the example of being people who are not shy about showing our gratitude to God. We can bless others with that.

PRAYER: Awesome God, for all You have shred with us in the gift of sunrises, sunsets, flowers, gardens, beaches, mountains, cloud formations, we are blessed by You; may we not be shy about showing you our thanks; in Christ Jesus we pray, amen.

Have a great and blessed day in the Lord. YOUR CALL TO ACTION: Take a moment or two to give thanks to God for all God has shared with you!

1 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. 6 And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. 7 And they were amazed and wondered, saying, "Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? 9 Par'thians and Medes and E'lamites and residents of Mesopota'mia, Judea and Cappado'cia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phryg'ia and Pamphyl'ia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyre'ne, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabians, we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God." 12 And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, "What does this mean?" 13 But others mocking said, "They are filled with new wine." 14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them, "Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words. 15 For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day; 16 but this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17 'And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; 18 yea, and on my menservants and my maidservants in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy. 19 And I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth beneath, blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke; 20 the sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood, before the day of the Lord comes, the great and manifest day. 21 And it shall be that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.' (Acts 2:1-12 Revised Standard Version Bible)

A blessed and safe Tuesday for you, dear Friend; praying that you know God knows right where you are, and what you are facing - and He's in control. Fear not! I ask prayers for the family of Mrs. Rosa Sandoval, a faithful member of El Mesias UMC of Mission, Texas. It was my pleasure and privilege to have been her pastor for eleven years, twelve if you count my internship year there. Rosa was an inspiration to many, having brought her husband to faith, and together they blessed a lot of people. Many are the stories I have about her life and dedication to Jesus. May she rest in glory and may God's comfort be with her family. Pray for one another. Pray for the needs of the world. Pray for your needs.

This morning I was waiting in line for the postal clerk at the Seguin Post Office. The client in front of me was having trouble understanding the clerk and vice versa. I understood both. The woman started to rush off thinking what she needed was not possible. I asked the woman the question the clerk had asked and told him the answer. In a matter of two sentences she had the keys to her POBox and the clerk was thankful. I love being bilingual. It has opened a lot of doors and allowed for blessings to flow to and from me.

I celebrate that Pentecost was, in God's opinion, a matter of the world knowing and understanding each other. Think the old Coke commercial about teaching the world to sing in perfect harmony? And I think of the time at a General Conference going to the elevator when I noticed that the delegate from the Czech Republic was also awaiting one and I greeted him in Czech. His face beamed and he replied and could not stop hugging me and he went beyond the Jak Se Mas that I knew. But I got it. I made a connection that he was missing during his time in the USA and his joy gave away his heart for the language he spoke on a daily basis. And that was the point of Pentecost. That in the middle of a city filled with Jews from all over the world, in town for an important festival and celebration, these Jews heard in their language, men from whom this was not expected, telling of God's mighty works. In their own tongue!

Appearances didn't matter to God either, as the boldness with which the disciples were sharing Jesus the people thought they were drunk. I imagine it was their enthusiasm with which they were doing it. This shocked the visitors from other lands, but it allowed Peter to share his first sermon which resulted in 3,000 new converts; in reality it was but the start of this movement that has reached about a billion or more, whose lives were changed for the better for the gift of salvation was theirs. This movement touched the person who told you about Jesus. Whom have you told?

PRAYER: Loving God of the whole world, grant to us the manner and method to reach the world for You. Help us speak the language of love to all people so we can share Jesus, for it is in His name that we pray, amen.

Have a great and blessed day in the Lord! YOUR CALL TO ACTION: If you speak another language use it to share Jesus; if you can show love, do it!

You Thirsty?

37 On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” 39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. (John 7:37-39 NIV)

Water is essential for our staying alive. We can go weeks without food, but only three days without water. Those who have had to forgo water for any specific reason know that nothing is worse than having no water. Covid even changed, for some, the availability of water. Most water fountains were closed down and only a few have reopened. Those who lived in Jesus' day knew the preciousness of water and the necessity of staying alive with water. The importance of water gave it a key part of God's message of caring for us and it becoming a symbol of life.

On the last day of the Festival of Tabernacles, a celebration of God's provision during the Exodus, Jesus stands and yells, "Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink." One of the great provisions of God during the forty years of wandering had been the provision of water, and so it is important that those celebrating the giving of water hear again God saying all who are thirsty can still find water to drink in Him. Jesus makes it His own by saying, "Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them." Jesus was referring to the Holy Spirit and how He would come with the power the believers would need to live life and share new life with others. And as the writer makes clear, the Holy Spirit had not been given, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.

The coming of the Holy Spirit was all a part of God's plan to share with believers and nonbelievers the Gospel of Jesus Christ. When the Spirit came, as we will study tomorrow, He empowered the people with all power and authority to spread the word of God through Jesus. Jesus was glorified in His death, HIs ascension and His coming through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit brought boldness, wisdom, strength, and the openings we need in which to share our faith. Be bold today and let the Spirit speak through you!

PRAYER: Holy Father, grant to us the living water that is the Holy Spirit that can flow within us and through us. Empower us to do Your work for Thy good; in Christ Jesus we pray, amen.

Have a great and blessed day in the Lord! YOUR CALL TO ACTION: Be bold in sharing what God has done in You.

Up With God

Here the devotional here: https://bit.ly/3IlofVp

View here: https://bit.ly/3MirIFu https://bit.ly/3MirIFu 1 Up with God! Down with his enemies! Adversaries, run for the hills! 2 Gone like a puff of smoke, like a blob of wax in the fire - one look at God and the wicked vanish. 3 When the righteous see God in action they'll laugh, they'll sing, they'll laugh and sing for joy. 4 Sing hymns to God; all heaven, sing out; clear the way for the coming of Cloud-Rider. Enjoy God, cheer when you see him! 5 Father of orphans, champion of widows, is God in his holy house. 6 God makes homes for the homeless, leads prisoners to freedom, but leaves rebels to rot in hell. 7 God, when you took the lead with your people, when you marched out into the wild, 8 Earth shook, sky broke out in a sweat; God was on the march. Even Sinai trembled at the sight of God on the move, at the sight of Israel's God. 9 You pour out rain in buckets, O God; thorn and cactus become an oasis 10 For your people to camp in and enjoy. You set them up in business; they went from rags to riches. 32 Sing, O kings of the earth! Sing praises to the Lord! 33 There he is: Sky-Rider, striding the ancient skies. Listen - he's calling in thunder, rumbling, rolling thunder. 34 Call out "Bravo!" to God, the High God of Israel. His splendor and strength rise huge as thunderheads. 35 A terrible beauty, O God, streams from your sanctuary. It's Israel's strong God! He gives power and might to his people! O you, his people - bless God! (Psalm 68:1-10, 32-25 The Message Bible)

I remember thinking, during an innocent period of my childhood, that I had no enemies. I believe we had been learning Psalm 121 and wondering who were my enemies at that age? The teacher explained that some illnesses, etc. would count as enemies. Then, like you, realized that some enemies do become real and will go against you. And then I learned that yes, even God has enemies. And sadly, at times, God's biggest enemy can be me. Yes, I've made decisions or said things that a friend, nay a child of God, would not or should not, say.

The psalmist knew about enemies of God. In his day those of his nation were, for the most part, friends of God and those who were from other nations who worshiped other gods, were the enemies of God. So, in this modern version of the psalm, he writes, "Up with God! Down with His enemies! Adversaries, run for the hills!" He writes of the day when God will deal with those who have gone against God. God will bless those of the believers who are righteous, for they have seen God in action, and they know to praise and cheer Him. God is, the psalmist writes, the father of orphans, champion of widows. He says God makes homes for the homeless, leads to freedom those who are prisoners, but the enemies who rebelled against God, will "rot in hell." The rest of the psalm is a litany of praise for all that God does for the righteous.

If you count yourself as a child of God, rejoice and take advantage of all God offers to do your part in expanding the kingdom of God. If you are not a friend or consider yourself a family member of God, that does not have to stay the case; you are free to surrender to the Lord and become a family member of God's and join the siblings who also love God and want to serve Him.

PRAYER: Loving God, cleanse me and make me yours. Forgive me for having strayed and reign me in to the brother and sister-hood of God. I want to do my part; in Christ Jesus I pray, amen.

Have a great and blessed day in the Lord. YOUR CALL TO ACTION: Do and be something for God.

6 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” 9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. 10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” 12 Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day’s walk from the city. 13 When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. 14 They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers. (Acts 1:6-14 NIV)

A blessed and happy Thursday to you, dear Reader. May this bless you and your day, and in turn become a blessings to others. Nellie and I were in Houston and I did not have the time to prepare today's devotional as I wanted. Please be prayer for one another; pray for yourselves and the needs of the world. Why do we pray? Because God answers prayers!

The question almost gives away the position where some of the disciples found themselves as they were still grieving and celebrating the Risen Christ; a question about the kingdom of Israel after all the Lord said about the true kingdom, the Kingdom of God. It was important for most of the Jews for Israel to once again regain its place among the nations that it once had, but they missed the point of Jesus' mission, to restore the kingdom of God to its proper place in the hearts of people. Still, Jesus loves them and answers them in a loving way saying it was not the time to ask, for no one knows the times or dates the Father has already set in His authority. The important thing, according to Jesus, was know they has were to "receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." In other words, witnesses into all the world on His behalf. As soon as Jesus says this, He ascends into Heaven. The disciples kept their gaze on Jesus until they could no longer see Him. Their sky gazing is interrupted by the question of an angel who asks them, "Why do you stand here looking into the sky?" Good question, given that up to this point, every day brought a new challenge and a new insight into their lives and its purpose. The angel then said, "This same Jesus, Who has been taken from you into Heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into Heaven."

The disciples then walked back to Jerusalem from where they had been to the Upper Room to await what was next. And what was next we know quite well, the coming of the Holy Spirit as flames from above. But for now, they were to ponder and pray. Luke lists those whom he knows by name; Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaesus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. Constant in prayer, the women who followed Jesus and Mary the mother of Jesus, and Jesus' brothers. Prayer for preparation; prayer for power to be the most effective witnesses they could be for Jesus. And lest I forget, they were fearing for their very lives; praying for God's protection.

Friends, the theme for this week, according to the passages we've studied, Jesus prayed for us, Jesus is on the job, and still involved in assisting all who would give of themselves to further the work of the kingdom, the true kingdom, the Kingdom of God.

PRAYER: Loving God, bless our efforts to share Your love for all. Help us look beyond the trials and tribulations that may come our way, and to look to You; in Christ Jesus we pray, amen.

Have a great and blessed day in the Lord! YOUR CALL TO ACTION: Help someone share Jesus.

God is On The Job!

12 Friends, when life gets really difficult, don't jump to the conclusion that God isn't on the job. 13 Instead, be glad that you are in the very thick of what Christ experienced. This is a spiritual refining process, with glory just around the corner. 14 If you're abused because of Christ, count yourself fortunate. It's the Spirit of God and his glory in you that brought you to the notice of others. 5 They're the ones who will be called on the carpet - and before God himself. 6 Listen to the Message. It was preached to those believers who are now dead, and yet even though they died (just as all people must), they will still get in on the life that God has given in Jesus. 7 Everything in the world is about to be wrapped up, so take nothing for granted. Stay wide-awake in prayer. 8 Most of all, love each other as if your life depended on it. Love makes up for practically anything. 9 Be quick to give a meal to the hungry, a bed to the homeless - cheerfully. 10 Be generous with the different things God gave you, passing them around so all get in on it: 11 if words, let it be God's words; if help, let it be God's hearty help. That way, God's bright presence will be evident in everything through Jesus, and he'll get all the credit as the One mighty in everything - encores to the end of time. Oh, yes! (1 Peter 4:12-14, 5:6-11 The Message Bible).

Happy and Blessed Tuesday, dear Friend! May this day be a day of new beginnings in those areas of you life that need them. May this be a day of prayer for you for all who are on your prayer list, your church's prayer list, or whose image has come to your mind and you are worried about them. Pray for one another, pray for the Church, pray for the world, and pray for all who seem to be opposed to you and what you seek to do in your life.

The Old Testament character Job sure had his days of asking why is life so difficult and even his wife lovingly suggested that he curse God so he could die, for she thought that would be better than the suffering he was going through, but Job's faith went beyond that and he never cursed God. Nor should we. I love the writer of this letter who says that we should not jump to the conclusion that God isn't on the job. On the contrary we know God's loveline/helpline is open 24/7, eight days a week. Peter says that we should be thankful that we are in the very thick of what Jesus experienced for this is a spiritual refining process, with glory awaiting us "just around the corner." Peter says that if we are being bullied because of Christ, we should count that as a fortunate thing; he says "It's the Spirit of God and His glory in you that brought you to the notice of others." It will be them who are doing this to you who will be called on to make amends for their abuse of you.

Peter is all about the Message, or good news about Jesus. It was the message he and others preached as soon as they were able, and it is the message that was with and in those who have died; they haven't lost anything because they are still in on the things of God's promise. Peter believed, even at his writing, that things were wrapping up and we should take nothing for granted. We should be "wide-awake in prayer," knowing that prayer supports and sustains us as we face what we face. We should also be all about love, loving one another, "as if our live depended on it," which it does. Love is a powerful force and it can, as the writer says, "can make up for practically anything." We should offer meals to the hungry, a bed to the homeless and that with cheerfulness. We should be generous people with the different things and tools that God has given to us to bless Him and those who are in need. If we have been blessed with words, we should use those words to bless and help others. If we are called to be helpers, let us help others with God's hearty help. All this combined together will bring about God's brilliant presence in everything we do and God will get the credit as He deserves, for He is the one who is mighty in everything, even to the end of time. And his amen? "Oh, yes!" Amen.

The message for believers from Page One of Genesis to Page Last of Revelation: We are not alone. God is with us. God will see us through. It may be scary at times, but hold on, we will make it! So, dear friend, place your trust in the Living God, the God Who loves you enough to have sent His Son to help you find abundant life and the road that leads to eternal life.

PRAYER: God of the Ages, we thank You and praise You for all You do for us. Let us be fruitful and faithful in our service to You; in Christ Jesus we pray, amen.

Have a great and blessed day in the Lord! YOUR CALL TO ACTION: Remind someone who is facing a problem that God is with them.

Jesus' Prayer for You and Me

1 Jesus said these things. Then, raising his eyes in prayer, he said: Father, it's time. Display the bright splendor of your Son So the Son in turn may show your bright splendor. 2 You put him in charge of everything human So he might give real and eternal life to all in his charge. 3 And this is the real and eternal life: That they know you, The one and only true God, And Jesus Christ, whom you sent. 4 I glorified you on earth By completing down to the last detail What you assigned me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me with your very own splendor, The very splendor I had in your presence Before there was a world. 6 I spelled out your character in detail To the men and women you gave me. They were yours in the first place; Then you gave them to me, And they have now done what you said. 7 They know now, beyond the shadow of a doubt, That everything you gave me is firsthand from you, 8 For the message you gave me, I gave them; And they took it, and were convinced That I came from you. They believed that you sent me. 9 I pray for them. I'm not praying for the God-rejecting world But for those you gave me, For they are yours by right. 10 Everything mine is yours, and yours mine, And my life is on display in them. 11 For I'm no longer going to be visible in the world; They'll continue in the world While I return to you. Holy Father, guard them as they pursue this life That you conferred as a gift through me, So they can be one heart and mind. (John 17:1-11 The Message Bible)

There is nothing like knowing someone is praying for you. As a student away for college, knowing that my mother, grandmother, and my Dad, were praying for me just blessed me beyond what words I could possibly share. Later, at my first Walk to Emmaus retreat, as I read posters from people in Africa, Europe, South America, all saying they were praying for all on this retreat by first name, That knowledge brought me to tears.

Jesus was a man of prayer. And of holy habits, He was also a man of worship. He was always praying and every time He could, He was in church, worshiping God. And in this passage Jesus is praying for His ministry, for you, and for me. Jesus was all about glorifying God, as should we be as well. Do things, say things, and think things that make God look good. We could display Christ's "bright splendor" in ways that attract others to Him. The difficulty of His ministry made Him pray that God give Him strength to face and overcome all that would come to Him during His days on the earth. His prayer reminds us of His mission "to give real and eternal life to all in His charge." And this is, "That (we) know (Him), The one and only ture God, and Jesus Chridst, Whom You sent."

The prayer part for you and me include Jesus' sharing with God that He tried to spell out His character in detail to us, so that we might know and use that wisdom and experience to our daily living. And Jesus' prayer for us is that we might stay in the faith. Jesus loves us so much that He came to us, and for us. All that God gave Jesus, Jesus gave to us, to provide for us the great victories over the challenges of life. Whatever "mountain" is looming large over us, even in the form of a warrior giant, it will fall! Think Goliath who turned out to be just a windbag; David's faith knocked him out; so can ours. If it seems like an ocean too large to cross, it can dry up or parted in two, so that we can walk right through it. Whatever, or Whomever we are up against, they are up not only against us alone, but God by our side and God in us. And Jesus ends His prayer with "Holy Father, guard them as they pursue this life that You conferred as a gift through me, so they can be one heart and mind." And what can we say about this? AMEN!

PRAYER: Awesome Father, we claim victory over all we face, in Jesus' name; in His name we pray, amen.

Have a great and blessed day in the Lord. YOUR CALL TO ACTION: Win in all things today, in Jesus' name, amen!

Receive my blessings of joy and victory,

Friday Faith Feeding

Dear Friend, God is incredible. You, too, are incredible if you trust God and allow God to use you and bless you. Just today Nellie and I were talking about work experiences for which at times we felt we were not trained and yet God surprised us by the results. It all was summed up to allowing us to be ourselves and letting God shine through. I say this not to brag, but to encourage you to be MORE incredible in how you deal with others, especially the ones for which you think. you are not properly trained to deal with. Be a person of love. I pray God bless and use you this weekend in ways that renew your joy and your love for Him. Make time for God this weekend. And to all the Moms our there, Happy Mother's Day! I love you and thank God for you! Pastor Eradio Valverde, Jr.

God Knows

Do you believe that God not only loves you, but knows where you are and what you're doing every minute of the day? I certainly do after an amazing experience I had several years ago. At the time I was driving on 1-75 near Dayton, Ohio, with my wife and children. We turned off the highway for a rest and refreshment stop. My wife Barbara and children went into the restaurant. I suddenly felt the need to stretch my legs, so waved them off ahead saying I'd join them later. I bought a soft drink, and as I walked toward a Dairy Queen, feelings of self-pity enshrouded my mind. I loved the Lord, but I felt drained, burdened. My cup was empty. Suddenly the impatient ringing of a telephone nearby jarred me out of my doldrums. It was coming from a phone booth at a service station on the corner. Wasn't anyone going to answer the phone? Noise from the traffic flowing through the busy intersection must have drowned out the sound because the service station attendant continued looking after his customers, oblivious to the incessant ringing. "Why doesn't somebody answer that phone?" I muttered. I began reasoning. "It may be important. What if it's an emergency?" Curiosity overcame my indifference. I stepped inside the booth and picked up the phone. "Hello," I said casually and took a big sip of my drink. The operator said: "Long distance call for Ken Gaub." My eyes widened, and I almost choked on a chunk of ice. Swallowing hard, I said, "You're crazy!" Then realizing I shouldn't speak to an operator like that, I added, "This can't be! I was walking down the road, not bothering anyone, and the phone was ringing... "Is Ken Gaub there?" the operator interrupted, "I have a long distance call for him." It took a moment to gain control of my babbling, but I finally replied, "Yes, he is here." Searching for a possible explanation, I wondered if I could possibly be on Candid Camera! Still shaken, perplexed, I asked, "How in the world did you reach me here? I was walking down the road, the pay phone started ringing, and I just answered it on chance. You can't mean me." "Well," the operator asked, "is Mr. Gaub there or isn't he?" "Yes, I am Ken Gaub," I said, finally convinced by the tone of her voice that the call was real. Then I heard another voice say, "Yes, that's him, operator. That's Ken Gaub." I listened dumbfounded to a strange voice identify herself. "I'm Millie from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. You don't know me, Mr. Gaub, but I'm desperate. Please help me." "What can I do for you?" She began weeping. Finally she regained control and continued. "I was about to commit suicide, had just finished writing a note, when I began to pray and tell God I really didn't want to do this. Then I suddenly remembered seeing you on television and thought if I could just talk to you, you could help me. I knew that was impossible because I didn't know how to reach you, I didn't know anyone who could help me find you. Then some numbers came to my mind, and I scribbled them down." At this point she began weeping again, and I prayed silently for wisdom to help her. She continued, "I looked at the numbers and thought, 'Wouldn't it be wonderful if I had a miracle from God, and He has given me Ken's phone number?' I decided to try calling it. I can't believe I'm talking to you. Are you in your office in California?" I replied, "Lady, I don't have an office in California. My office is in Yakima, Washington." A little surprised, she asked, "Oh really, then where are you?" "Don't you know?" I responded. "You made the call." She explained, "But I don't even know what area I'm calling. I just dialed the number that I had on this paper." "Ma'am, you won't believe this, but I'm in a phone booth in Dayton, Ohio!" "Really?" she exclaimed. "Well, what are you doing there?" I kidded her gently, "Well, I'm answering the phone. It was ringing as I walked by, so I answered it." Knowing this encounter could only have been arranged by God, I began to counsel the woman. As she told me of her despair and frustration, the presence of the Holy Spirit flooded the phone booth giving me words of wisdom beyond my ability. In a matter of moments, she prayed the sinner's prayer and met the One who would lead her out of her situation into a new life. I walked away from that telephone booth with an electrifying sense of our heavenly Father's concern for each of His children. What were the astronomical odds of this happening? With all the millions of phones and innumerable combinations of numbers, only an all-knowing God could have caused that woman to call that number in that phone booth at that moment in time. Forgetting my drink and nearly bursting with exhilaration, I headed back to my family, wondering if they would believe my story. Maybe I better not tell this, I thought, but I couldn't contain it. "Barb, you won't believe this! God knows where I am!"

More Precious Than Gold

by Richard Evans

We gather them over our entire lifetime. A very few touch our heart, mind, and soul in such a way we may feel vulnerable. We may even feel a degree of pain. Those we hold tightly to ourselves, trying hard not to share them with others, not speaking of them, trying to hide them even from our own consciousness. Many others will bring a smile to our face, joy to our heart, and meaning to our lives. Some are created when we meet a new friend. Some happen when someone comes to a birthday party that’s been cancelled but stays anyway. We have a chance to have thousands every day, but only a very few rise to the level where we can recall them years later. Many of them are transient and temporary, fading into obscurity with the passage of just a few calendar pages. These are our memories. They can be good or bad, special or ordinary. Every so often we remember a special event, a special happening, a special feeling which can change our lives forever. Think about the time you met your best friend, your spouse, your soul-mate. Think about the many joyous times you shared just being close, sharing a few words, sharing your thoughts and your dreams. Think of the precious times that filled every day with an abundant measure of happiness. You may have memories of baking a cake, playing soccer, fishing, sharing a book or a movie with someone special. The memories may seem so ordinary, so mundane, so simple. They don’t all have to be fabulous victories or great successes. They don’t have to be graduating with some special skills or being recognized with another promotion. You don’t have to receive national recognition as father or mother of the year, but recognition by your own family can be a mountaintop experience. How do we measure a memory? What makes some last forever and others fade with the rapidity of the setting sun? Why do we place value on some of the most ordinary memories? Isn’t it the honesty, the simplicity of it all, the love we feel, the value that is shared? A couple holds hands as a simple sign of a deep and abiding love, a commitment to be there for each other, a symbol that no matter what happens they will “hang on” through thick and thin forever. Someone is ready to sacrifice everything to help a friend who has been hurt because the friendship is so precious, so important. The memories may be every bit as poignant when those friends sit around a blazing fire, enjoying the beauty of nature and sharing hopes, plans, and dreams of the future. We may have memories of when we were sick and someone cared enough to minister to our extraordinary needs. It is those memories, those shared events that touch our heart, that bring us joy, and help those memories last a lifetime and beyond. Look around you at the people who matter. Think about what you’ve shared over the past few weeks. Think about the memories you have and the memories you have shared with them. Have you shared your dreams? Have you shared your heart? Have you shared your soul, your beliefs, your faith with them. Today is a very special day and I can think of no better day to create some precious memories. Too many people think that possessions, money, or gold are so important, so valuable. The truth is a few good memories are much more precious than gold and so much more enjoyable for you to create. Celebrating Precious Memories, Jan and Richard Evans Love

Early in the 20th century, two young medical school graduates and their father started a small sanitarium for mental patients on a farm outside Topeka, Kansas. This was a time with the "rest cure" was in vogue in psychiatry, and patients were sent to impersonal institutions to live out their lives. This father and his sons had a different idea. They were determined to create a loving, family atmosphere among their patients and staff. The nurses were given special training and were told "Let each person know how much you value them. Shower these people with love." The doctors were Karl and William Menninger, and the Menninger Clinic, with such "revolutionary" methods, became world famous and has helped countless numbers of people. Karl Menninger said, "Love cures people - both the ones who give it and the ones who receive it. This intangible thing love ... enters into every therapeutic relationship. It is an element which finds and heals, which comforts and restores, which works what we have to call for now, miracles."

For A Quarter?

Several years ago a preacher moved to Houston, Texas. Some weeks after he arrived, he had occasion to ride the bus from his home to the downtown area. When he sat down, he discovered that the driver had accidentally given him a quarter too much change. As he considered what to do, he thought to himself, you better give the quarter back. It would be wrong to keep it. Then he thought, "Oh", forget it, it's only a quarter. Who would worry about this little amount? Anyway the bus company already gets too much fare; they will never miss it. Accept it as a gift from God and keep quiet." When his stop came, he paused momentarily at the door, then he handed the quarter to the driver and said, "Here, you gave me too much change". The driver with a smile, replied, "Aren't you the new preacher in town? I have been thinking lately about going to worship somewhere. I just wanted to see what you would do, if I gave you too much change." When my friend stepped off the bus, he literally grabbed the nearest light pole, and held on, and said, "O God", I almost sold your Son for a quarter". Our lives are the only Bible some people will ever read.

Quiet Time

After I loaded my son, Austin, 2, into the car, I drove home, forgetting I'd left my wallet on top of the car. Miles later I remembered the wallet and pulled over. Of course it wasn't there, and I started crying. Austin, who didn't understand what had happened, exclaimed, "Well, I think it's time one of us had a nap!" Jerry T., Texas

Somebody's Got Your Back Author Jack Canfield said, “Human beings are not designed to go through life alone. No one has to bear the burden of tough times all by themselves.” A television nature program captured an image of this idea well. It was an episode about a baby bear. The cub was one of two babies born to a mother black bear, but his sibling died in childbirth. Not too long afterward, Mama Bear also died. The little cub was left alone to fend in the world. But he was fortunate. He soon came across a huge male black bear who took a liking to the little guy. By the end of the day the adoption papers were signed and the little cub had a new friend and father. Papa Bear showed the cub how to forage for berries. He taught him which plants he could eat and which to leave alone. He showed him how to fish. Papa Bear taught the cub all the things a bear needs to know to get along in the world. The two were inseparable...until the day they separated. The little cub found himself all alone when a hungry mountain lion crept up. The two locked eyes and terror ran through the bear’s heart. So he did the only he knew to do, the thing Papa Bear had taught...he rose up on his hind legs, showed teeth and claws, looked his enemy right in the eye and roared a fierce roar.. Well, it wasn’t really a roar at all, but a tiny squeak. The camera panned back to the mountain lion who must have been amused at the little guy, and was surely preparing to enjoy a tasty lunch. The audience expected the lion to pounce any second. But something strange happened. A look of fear crossed the cougar’s face, he slowly backed off a few steps and then turned and bounded away. The camera panned back to the frightened cub and now the audience could see what the little bear could not. Behind the cub, but not too far back, stood Papa Bear - up on his hind legs, all teeth and claws, with a deadly gleam in his eye. He didn’t growl, but then he didn’t have to. The lion got the message. I love the image of the powerful black bear, ready to go to battle for a vulnerable cub. And that is an image I always want to keep in mind. No matter how helpless, frightened or vulnerable we feel, there is a strong and mighty force just behind us. That force is made up of people who watch out for us. Family and friends, children and colleagues and even strangers. There are more people behind you and me, ready to step in when needed, than we may ever know.. We don’t have to go through this world all alone. And sometimes we will need extra help. We may need people to pull us through, to watch our backs or just to stand by. Who’s got your back? Will you let them help? - by Steve Goodier

The Golden Rule As the Road of Honor

Five hundred years before the birth of Christ, Confucius was asked, “Is there one word that may serve as a rule of practice for all one’s life?” He answered, “Reciprocity. What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others.” This basic principle, now called the Golden Rule, can be found in every major religion and philosophy. Although many people evoke one version or another of this rule, it’s often misused. You see, the Golden Rule is not primarily a rule of enlightened self-interest. Sure, people are more likely to be nice to you if you’re nice to them, but the moral center of this principle is lost if you simply view it as a rule of exchange: Do unto others so they will do unto you. Do unto others as they have done unto you. Do unto others before they do unto you. The core of the Golden Rule is a moral obligation to treat others ethically for their sake, not ours, even if it’s better than the way they treat us. Therefore, we should be honest to liars, fair to the unjust, kind to cruel people. Why? Certainly not because it’s advantageous, but because it’s right. And because the way we treat others is about who we are, not who they are. It’s like the man who broke off an argument that had descended into name-calling by saying, “Sir, I will treat you as a gentleman – not because you are one, but because I am one.” - Michael Josephson .

When there is nothing left but God, that is when you find out that God is all you need. Take 60 seconds and give this a shot! All you do is simply say the following small prayer for the person who sent you this. “Father, God bless all my friends in whatever it is that You know they may be needing this day! And may their life be full of your peace, which transcends all understanding. Amen.” Then send it on to five other people, including the one who sent it to you. Within hours you caused a multitude of people to pray for other people. Then sit back and watch the power of God work in your life. P. S. Five is good, but more is better. THE BUZZARD If you put a buzzard in a pen that is 6 feet by 8 feet and is entirely open at the top, the bird, in spite of its ability to fly, will be an absolute prisoner. The reason is that a buzzard always begins a flight from the ground with a run of 10 to 12 feet. Without space to run, as is its habit, it will not even attempt to fly, but will remain a prisoner for life in a small jail with no top. THE BAT The ordinary bat that flies around at night, a remarkable nimble creature in the air, cannot take off from a level place. If it is placed on the floor or flat ground, all it can do is shuffle about helplessly and, no doubt, painfully, until it reaches some slight elevation from which it can throw itself into the air. Then, at once, it takes off like a flash. THE BUMBLEBEE A bumblebee, if dropped into an open tumbler, will be there until it dies, unless it is taken out. It never sees the means of escape at the top, but persists in trying to find some way out through the sides near the bottom. It will seek a way where none exists, until it completely destroys itself. ------------------------ PEOPLE ---------------------- In many ways, we are like the buzzard, the bat, and the bumblebee. We struggle about with all our problems and frustrations, never realizing that all we have to do is look up! That's the answer, the escape route and the solution to any problem... just look up! 8 Bless our God, O peoples! Give him a thunderous welcome! 9 Didn't he set us on the road to life? Didn't he keep us out of the ditch? 10 He trained us first, passed us like silver through refining fires, 11 Brought us into hardscrabble country, pushed us to our very limit, 12 Road-tested us inside and out, took us to hell and back; Finally he brought us to this well-watered place. 13 I'm bringing my prizes and presents to your house. I'm doing what I said I'd do, 14 What I solemnly swore I'd do that day when I was in so much trouble: 15 The choicest cuts of meat for the sacrificial meal; Even the fragrance of roasted lamb is like a meal! Or make it an ox garnished with goat meat! 16 All believers, come here and listen, let me tell you what God did for me. 17 I called out to him with my mouth, my tongue shaped the sounds of music. 18 If I had been cozy with evil, the Lord would never have listened. 19 But he most surely did listen, he came on the double when he heard my prayer. 20 Blessed be God: he didn't turn a deaf ear, he stayed with me, loyal in his love. (Psalm 66:6-20 The Message Bible)

I had a church member who would always tell me as I left his company, "Keep it between the ditches!" Good advice, no? I remember learning to drive and that was the challenge in them olden days! Here, the psalmist is urging us to being our day by being thankful to God, even blessing God in a wonderful, loud way, for it was God who set us on the road to life. And here, in a modern version, the psalmist says, "Didn't He keep us out of the ditch?" Yes, indeed! Driving into a ditch is no fun! The psalmist says, "God trained us first, passed us like silver through refining fires, Brouht us into hardscrabble country, pushed us to our very lmit, Road-tested us inside and out, took us to hell and back; Finally He brought us to this well-watered place." And then the praising and worship begins: We are to offer that which means something to us to Him who is God. We keep our vows and promises, as God intended. And we offer up sacrifices to Him, though it sounds like a barbecue, but that was part of the ancient worship, offering up the "choicest cuts of meat, or the fragrance of a roasted lamb."

The invitation is for all who believe in God to gather, listen, and share all that God has dnoe for you. This psalm reminds us of God's faithfulness, even in the midst of trials and hardships. It calls us to come before Him with a heart of worship and thanksgiving, offering up our praises and our lives as a sacrifice to Him. May this passage inspire us to walk in obedience and devotion to God, trusting in His goodness and grace each day. Come on dear ones, let's do what God has called upon us to serve Him with faithfulness and joy!

PRAYER: Awesome God, make us sweet fragrances for all, about Your love and care. Help us win the world for you; in Christ Jesus we pray, amen.

Have a great and blessed day in the Lord! YOUR CALL TO ACTION: Praise God in outrageous, but thankful ways.

We Know The Unknown God!

22 Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “People of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. 23 For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going to proclaim to you. 24 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. 26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. 27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. 28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ 29 “Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by human design and skill.30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.” (Acts 17:22-31 NIV)

Several years ago, in a community where I was serving, the ministerial alliance wanted to bring Dr. Billy Graham to do an evangelistic campaign in our city. This set in motion the machine that is The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. They immediately did a study and determined that we were not large enough to host Billy. They said that maybe, perhaps, we might get Franklin. And if they determined that we were still not large enough we would get William Graham, the son of Franklin. A series of meetings were set up to discuss all that would be involved in getting such an event to happen. Gone are the days of most revivals, but also gone are the days of a traveling evangelist just showing up to preach the Gospel in any city or town. Shewd was the mind of the Apostle Paul, who, thanks to God's Holy Spirit, knew his audience and their setting. As he works among the Greeks in Athens, Paul knew where he was and who he was among. He knew the Greeks loved to learn and discuss, and he knew that they had a central place where they gathered to hear new and exciting things or to discuss known things amonst themselves. The Areopagus was that place. It's an outcropping of rock and is also known as Mars Hill. It served a judicial role as well in Greek government, but it allowed for whoever wanted, a place to present their ideas. Paul was that person on that day.

Paul knew that the Greeks believed in many gods, thus him calling them "religious in every way." As he walked around Athens he came upon their objects of worship and found an altar dedicated to; AN UNKNOWN GOD. The Greeks covered their bases with this altar, "In case we've missed one!" And so Paul sees this as his opening. Paul says you're already worshiping the God that I know, and He is the God who made the world and everything in it. And our God does not live in temples built by human hands, nor is He served by human hands, as if He needed anything. God gave Himself for us so that we might have life, and breath, and everything else. This God made all humans from one man, so that we might inhabit the whole world. This same God marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of our lands. All this, Paul says, is so that we might seek Him out, reach out to Him, and find Him, even though He is never far from us. He then says this about God, "For in Him we live and move and have our being." And then quotes a Greek poet who said, "We are His offspring," and he continues,"Therefore since we are God's offsrping, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone - an image made by human design and skill...and He calls all people everywhere to repent, for the day is coming when we will all be judged by the Man (Jesus) He has appointed, with justice. And as proof, God raised Him from the dead."

I admire and am humbled by the valor of this man to stand in front of strangers, as a foreigner, to proclaim the gospel of Jesus, when many of us blush as thinking we should share a word of faith or pray out loud in a Sunday school. I dare say, those who accept God's Holy Spirit will be able to share all things in front of all people. May we seek the boldness of Saint Paul's faith.

PRAYER: Come, anoint me, Holy Spirit, and let us serve You in all setting in front of all people, to let them know about You; in Christ Jesus we pray, amen.

Have a great and blessed day in the Lord, YOUR CALL TO ACTION: Be bold in your faith!

Jesus the True Vine

1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. 5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. (John 15:1-8 NIV)

Most, if not all of us, went through a period in our lives when we asked, "Why am I here?" It was a tough time for me wondering why I was even born, why this family, why these parents, why these siblings, why this school, why do I even have to go to school? Some may ask, "What is the meaning of life?" And while most of us have realized our meaning of life, there is not one meaning that will satisfy all people. I personally believe that one of the main reasons we are here is to relate. Yes, we have a choice not to relate, but that makes life boring. But we are made to relate; to God, to others, to our friends, to our family, to our coworkers, and to any who may need us. Jesus, when answering a question abou the greatest commandment said, to love the Lord our God with all our heart, mind, and mind; to which He added, "And your neighbor as yourself." To relate is to love, or should be. And this passage is about true relating. Jesus invites us to relate to Him. We are part of the Lord's Vineyard and Jesus explains it; "I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener." The Lord also explains how it works; as a part of the vine (our relationship with Him) we are to bear fruit (reach others and bring them to Christ), but we are warned that those of us who do not reach others may be "pruned." Jesus made us clean by our having had our sins taken away, and by our having received the teachings of Christ as ours. The words of verse four in other translations is "abide." Remain is a good word, but abide implies the decision to reside or live in Christ. Jesus says that He lives in us, so we should live in Him.

Residing in Christ will allow us to bear more fruit than by living on our own. Quite honestly what Jesus says in saying "apart from me you can do nothing." It is by relating well and strongly with Jesus, we can relate well and strongly with others, because we are there in the moment and reality of living in Christ, and Christ living in us. Our relationship with Jesus will allow us to "ask whatever (we) wish, and it will be done for (us). We will glorify God when we bear much fruit, demonstrating by our lives that we truly are Jesus' disciples.

Hear this; Jesus loves you enough to not only relate to you, but to live in you. Jesus always remind me of home. Home in the sense of that feeling of safety and security, a warm feeling of acceptance and inclusion. Years later when I met Nellie, it was that same feeling that attacted her to me and led to our marriage. Jesus invites you and me to be a part of that relationship which will bless our lives and loves. When we connect to the vine we are pretty much untouchable.

PRAYER: Awesome God, we need You and we want to be a part of the vine of life; envelope us with Your love and grant us the fullness of love and joy; in Christ Jesus we pray, amen.

Have a great and blessed day in the Lord! YOUR CALL TO ACTION: Seek others to talk about how your related to God and God relates to us!

Religious People Should Not Kill; But They Do

55 But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, 56 and said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing on the right hand of God. 57 But they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and rushed upon him with one accord; 58 and they cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. 59 And they stoned Stephen, calling upon [the Lord], and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. 60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep. (Acts 7:55-60 American Standard Bible)

My two top favorite persons of the New Testament, besides Jesus, of course, are Peter and Paul. And Mary, of course! But in this passage, which is a very sad passage, we're introduced to a man who later would become the greatest evangelist of his time, named Saul. Those who know his story know this was not the highpoint of his Christian life. It was however, the high point of his religious life as a Jew and a leader at that. The Martyr Stephen was an awesome man, who died an early death like Jesus, for his views. Stephen was one of seven (7) deacons ordained and consecrated for servanthood (not preaching or prayer), but he did share his witness over and over again, much to the dislike of the Pharisees. You can read the entire story in the earlier verses of this chapter 6 of Acts.

All seven were chosen because they exhibited the presence of the Holy Spirit in their lives; though Stephen is listed first and his qualities are "a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit." It didn't help matters that Stephen didn't stay in his lane, for he was out and about when he wasn't serving tables in the meeting hall, and he did peform "great wonders and signs among the people." Such was his caring for others beyond his "job" in the church. The members of a Synagogue of the Freedman, tried to argue with him, but were powerless against a man filled with the Holy Spirit. And so, like Jesus, they got false witnesses to testify against him and they found him guilty of blasphemy.

The passage for today is what happened next. Even in his death he annoyed the so-called religious people. Note that even at the point of his death, he dies "being full of the Holy Spirit," and looking up "stedfastly into Heaven," he saw "the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God," which caused Stephen to say, "Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing on the right hand of God." BOOM! So much for your arguments that Jesus is not the Messiah nor the Son of God! They cried out in a loud voice, and stopped their ears, grabbed him and threw him out of the city, and stoned him. To keep the law, there had to be witnesses and there had to a man to guard the coasts and that was a young man named Saul. The murderers as they stoned him. Even with the blows of each rock and stone, Stephen was able to cry out, "Lord, Jesus, receive my spirit." What a wonderful faith he had. Stephen knelt down and cried out, "Lord, lay not this sin to their charge." Having said this, "he fell asleep." A nice way to say he was dead.

It is so sad to read in the Bible, and in the news, that religous people do kill. And killing others in the name of God or this religion versus that one, is part of human history. I was amazed to learn a true story of murder within the United Methodist church in a small town in Texas. HBO filed Love and Death here in Seguin, and in Smtihville, Georgetown, and a couple of other spots and it was recently relesed. Two couples that attended the same church grew close and the wife of one couple propositioned the husband of the other to have an affair, which led to a showdown between the two wives and an axe. No bueno. We cannot be mislead by our feelings or thoughts; we have to be, as Stephen, filled with the Holy Spirit and go and do, not misdeeds and blunders, but signs and wonders for the love of God and the love of God's people.

PRAYER: Loving God of love, speak to our hearts and fill them with the power and peace of the Holy Spirit. Lead us to glorify You in outstanding ways. In Christ Jesus we pray, amen.

Have a great and blessed day in the Lord. YOUR CALL TO ACTION: Be a Spirit-led person today and all days.

From No People to God's People

2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. 4 As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him— 5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For in Scripture it says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.” 7 Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,” 8 and, “A stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.”They stumble because they disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for. 9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. (1 Peter 2:2-10 New International Version Bible)

A blessed and Tremendous Tuesday to you, dear Reader. May the blessings of the Lord Jesus be yours today and all days. Pray for one another, pray for those who have asked prayers from you, pray for the needs of the world. I thank God for your prayers. I can feel them all the time. I shared with just a couple of you that this past Friday night Nellie, Carli, and I drove to Mission for our granddaughter Adabelle's 8th birthday. We rented an AirBnB that we had used before and I loved that it had a garage with enough space for my truck. We also knew that bad weather was coming our way that night, so we had a chance to visit with our daughter, son-in-law and our three grand-babies, two of whom wanted to stay the night (the girls; Eliana and Adabelle). That night the storm hit about midnight and by 1:30 the power to the home was out. I kept thinking the power would return momentarily. It did not. I don't know about the Airbnb but our daughter's home just today, Monday at about 6 pm. Schools have been cancelled for tomorrow in Mission. But last night, Dad here, could not sleep wondering if our daughter and family were safe from the carbon monoxide fumes from their generator powering their portable AC, internet, and fridge. So, I tossed and turned. And at about 1:58 am I remembered that I made a mistake in my recording and I had edited it out for the audio podcast, but not for the video part that goes on TikTok. My server is set to send it automatically at 2:15 am. So,, I got up, came to the home office and edited it and by 2:11 it was set to be sent. Then a quick breakfast, a nap, and then to Gonzales for Nellie's appointment. Bless you all for your prayers!

Rocks, which we shall include stones, are very much a part of Biblical language and the geography of the Holy Land. Depending of the edition and version of the New International Version the words stone and rock appear 399 times in the entire Bible. You could probably remember many of the times the words were used to describe God, Jesus, the power of God, etc. We must remember that Jesus re-named Peter, "Rock" when Jesus said He wanted Peter to be the foundation for the Church.

This passage has a reference to the Lord being a "living Stone, " who was chosen by God; and Peter writes, we are called to be living stones as part of a spiritual house meaning we are a part of the ministry of Christ, even being called priests of the holy priesthood, so we can be part of offering spiritual sacrifices to Jesus Christ. Peter sees this as part of the maturation process of believers. We go from being newborn babies who crave pure spiritual milk, and up we grow in our salvation and then become the living stones like Christ that are the foundation and walls of this priesthood. Peter quotes scripture about this high calling that we received upon our receiving Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior. What we do after we meet Him must glorify God and bless those around us. We have been set apart to be examples and bridges to help other come to know Jesus in the same way.

The telling part, Peter writes, when we were apart from Jesus we were not even considered a people; now in Christ, we are the people of God. When we were apart from Jesus we people who had not experienced mercy, but now we have and we must show mercy to others.

PRAYER: God of mercy and faithfulness; bless our walk so that we can truly become the living stones of a wonderful sanctuary being built to honor and serve God; help us be faithful bridge-builders to help others come to know You; in Christ Jesus we pray, amen.

Have a great and blessed day in the Lord. YOUR CALL TO ACTION: Claim for yourself that you are truly a bridge-builder for Jesus.

Receive my blessings of hope and love,
