I can still remember hearing the verse from 1 Corinthians 6:19 when my Sunday school teacher talked about "the body being the Temple of the Lord." Wow, I thought, that's quite the responsibility! I have to make sure that if God is to be worshipped inside of me I have to make sure this place is clean!
Here is our study guide for today:
Thursday: Let us reread the passage from 1 Corinthians 6:13b-20. His comments are very honest and don’t pull any punches. Did you know the word for fornication is pornia from which the word pornography comes? Did Paul miss the mark in his teachings? Or was he right on the money?
Paul gets specific in his instructions to the Christians in Corinth and to us: If we are going to "clean house" we have to make sure we're not thinking like those early Christians that thought that being a Christian was a spiritual matter and that anything done to the body would not affect the spirit. Paul knew better and so should we. We do not and cannot separate the spirit from the body. It's a complete package and it was meant to glorify God. As you read the word in Greek for fornication (sexual sins) it is pornia from where we get pornography. We don't have to talk about how prevelent that stuff is today. You can't get online without getting some ad or link that would love us to visit a porno site. And porn is simply that which would lead us away from glorifying God and gratifying our own desire.
Let us seek ways to really make God feel at home in this "temple" that we carry around. If God is to be worshiped in this temple, we need for it to reflect that which is conducive for true worship. Need help in cleaning up? Call the Master, Jesus to come in.
PRAYER: Come in Lord Jesus and clean my heart. Let me leave behind that which seeks to drag me down and corrupt me. Let my heart, body and soul be the temple of the Lord. Let the windows of this temple radiate the light of Christ which shines within. We pray in His name. Amen.
Have a great day filled with blessings!
