PRAYERS FROM THE BIBLE: A Prayer for Enlightenment

Image from pinterest.com

We ask God to give you complete knowledge of His will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better. We also pray that you will be strengthened with all His glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father. (Colossians 1:9-12 NLT)

Good Friday to you, dear Friend!  I pray this finds you well and blessed!  May this prayer from the Bible be a prayer that brings you and yours that which is needed and which can be shared for God's glory.

35,000. That's the number of decisions the average normal person makes each day.  I'll share that number again, 35,000.  The average child, on the other hand, makes about 3,000.  It doesn't making growing up look attractive does it?  "What shall I wear today?"  "What do I have to do today?"  "Do I really have to do that today?"  "How can I get out of this that I have to do today?"  And on and on those decisions go.  And add to that major life decisions that some make during that same day; it's as if we can double that number and add several zeros at the end; "Should I retire?"  "Should I change jobs?" "Isn't it time for a new vehicle?"  I'm getting anxious just writing this!  For that reason, the above and adapted passage (personal pronouns added) is a prayer for help from God in making decisions.  Let's look at the prayer:

1.  It asks God to help under completely have a knowledge of God's will for our day.   2.  That knowledge comes through spiritual wisdom (keep praying and reflecting!) 3.  Understanding comes from thorough examination of the situation and decision being made. 4.  It requires us to live in a way that honors and pleases the Lord. 5.  This will produce good fruit (evidence of the indwelling Holy Spirit leading and guiding you) 6.  We should be open for growth in our lives, in order to better know God. 7.  It asks God for more strength from His glorious power 8.  It asks God for endurance 9.  It asks God for patience.  10. We seek to be filled with joy. 11.  We become thankful people.

I can see how more blessed our day becomes by praying this; and as the day continues it shows a satisfaction in knowing that we are following God and we are obedient to Him.  It becomes a part of what we witness and share with others with the peace that comes from such a prayer blessing our lives.

May this prayer be also the prayer which blesses this devotional and you:
