The Newness of This Day and This New Year!

Loving God of peace, grant a blessing of calm and confidence in the life of this dear reader; in Christ Jesus I pray, amen.

Our text for today comes from Genesis 1: 1 First this: God created the Heavens and Earth - all you see, all you don't see. 2 Earth was a soup of nothingness, a bottomless emptiness, an inky blackness. God's Spirit brooded like a bird above the watery abyss. 3 God spoke: "Light!" And light appeared. 4 God saw that light was good and separated light from dark. 5 God named the light Day, he named the dark Night. It was evening, it was morning - Day One. (The Message)

No better way to start a New Year than with a reminder of how everything, I repeat, everything, began. It began with God. A simple yet profound way to start any New Year and any day for that matter. You can tell yourself, "Everything I see today, was created by God, and God did not abandon me nor God's world!" And to further our thoughts about God's awesome power think about that first day of creation; From nothing came everything. And over everything God's Spirit "brooded like a bird" over it. And of all the things God created first, there comes light. And light is good, and it separates light from dark. And that was Day One.

May the newness of this day not scare us; nor may the thought of a New Year lead us to darkness. May all our days be days lived in the knowledge and comfort of God's presence and the power of God's light.

PRAYER: God of creation, create in me a new heart with new hope and new love, for You and Yours. May I live each day knowing Your Spirit is with me and that with that knowledge I can live in the light. I ask this in Christ Jesus' precious and powerful name, amen.

Have a great and blessed day in the Lord!
