Good day dear friends.
Here is our study guide for today:
Exodus 34:14 speaks very clearly about God’s stance towards worship. Worship during Moses’ time was all about sacrifice and offerings and God worship was very much against idol worship. Are there any “idols” in your life that you worship?
Here is that text: Exodus 34:14(for you shall worship no other god, because the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God).
This is not the first time God says this. In the Ten Commandments of Exodus chapter 20, God states that to the people of Israel. And here the point is made again: God alone is worthy of our praise. No one and nothing can or should take the place of God's worship. As people in Moses' day approached the worship of God it was something very special and worthy of the time dedicated to that worship. And God knew the temptations His people faced as they made their way across the desert, other religions with multiple gods and the idols that represented those gods.
In our day there are still other religions and there are still idols. What we may take for a material possession, others can make it their object of worship and time that should be God's. Some make their cars that object, taking time on Sunday mornings when they should be in Sunday school or worship, they're in their front driveway washing and waxing their car. Their car has become their idols. For others it can be a boat, their iPods, their computers, and the list goes on. God is a jealous God and wants and merits our time and devotion. Has anything or anyone become an idol in your life?
PRAYER: Loving God, let me see the errors of my ways and let me center my entire attention on You. Make my thoughts be Your thoughts and the desires of my heart to be Yours as well. I pray this in Jesus' precious Name, amen.
Have a great and blessed day in the Lord!
